Buckeye Book Club: All the Light We Cannot See

May 17 @ 6:30 pm

You are invited to read All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr with our Buckeye Book Club.

Doerr is recognized as an Ohio author by the Ohio Center for the Book. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and obtained an M.F.A. in writing at Bowling Green State University in 1999. After that, he taught at various institutions, including the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Boise State University, and Princeton University. Anthony Doerr is an award-winning writer whose work has been translated into forty languages. In 2015 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction for the novel All the Light We Cannot See.

All the Light We Cannot See centers on Marie-Laure, a blind French teenager whose path crosses that of young German soldier, Werner, as they both try to survive the devastation of World War II in occupied France. We will be discussing such universal themes as: the power of knowledge; how war corrupts people into betraying their principles; and the legacy of the past.

This novel has been produced by Netflix in a four-part series starring Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Laurie, and Arie Mia Loberti. If this production airs before our discussion date in May, another point for discussion will be a comparison of the book and the film.

We will meet on Wednesday, May 17 in the evening via videoconference to discuss All the Light We Cannot See.
