Virginia Barton, a dedicated San Diego Buckeye, just celebrated her 100th birthday! She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1942 with a BS in music education. Ginny is a true super fan of Buckeye football. She never missed a game during her college days, and continues to watch Buckeye games on Saturdays with her daughter at her home in San Diego. She bleeds Scarlet and Gray and is a Buckeye for life!
Ginny has a remarkable life filled with music. She first began teaching instrumental and vocal music in 1942 at The Ohio State University Experimental School. Upon moving to San Diego in 1951, she continued educating students in music in the San Diego Unified School District. When her husband was transferred out of state, she taught private lessons in cello, violin, and flute. In 1984, Ginny began a 30-year career at San Diego Community College. She retired at the age of 96, setting the record for being the oldest active school teacher in the entire state of California! After her retirement, she continued to share her musical talents in convalescent homes, senior centers, and senior homes. She touches so many lives introducing, teaching, soothing, and promoting joy through music. Ginny says that an optimistic humor, dark chocolate, and music makes her happy, plus her family connections.
